TRURO, N.S. — The Amherst Ramblers dropped a 6–4 decision to the Truro Bearcats Thursday night at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in a back-and-forth matchup in the Maritime Junior Hockey League. Despite strong offensive contributions and multiple power-play goals, Amherst was unable to hold off a four-goal third-period surge from the Bearcats.
Amherst opened the scoring midway through the first period when Jacob Kaine netted his 19th goal of the season on the power play at 11:25. Kaine finished a passing play from Owen Aura and Mark Corbett to give the Ramblers an early 1–0 lead. Truro responded later in the period with a power-play goal from Liam Welsh at 14:59 before Callum Aucoin added another at 18:19, sending the Bearcats into the intermission ahead 2–1.
The Ramblers drew even in the second period thanks to their special teams. At 12:27, Corbett buried his 28th goal of the year on the power play, finishing a setup from Aura and Anthony Gaudet to tie the game 2–2 heading into the third period.
Amherst briefly regained the lead early in the third when Gaudet scored his 25th of the season just 1:01 into the frame, converting a feed from Cooper Cormier and Christian White. However, Truro quickly responded. Welsh scored his second of the night on the power play at 8:13 to tie the game before Drew Keiver gave the Bearcats the lead at 10:10. Logan Quinn extended the advantage with a goal at 15:53 as Truro seized control of the contest.
Kaine pulled the Ramblers back within one with his second goal of the night at 18:10, assisted by Aura and Gaudet, but Truro sealed the victory with an empty-net goal from Antoine Fontaine at 19:12 to secure the 6–4 final.
Amherst outshot Truro 37–34 and went 2-for-3 on the power play, while the Bearcats also capitalized twice on three opportunities. In goal, Brandon Lavoie made 28 saves on 33 shots for the Ramblers, while Louca Connolly turned aside 33 of 37 shots for Truro.
