Bearcats rally past Ramblers 2–1
The Amherst Ramblers and Truro Bearcats delivered a tight, defensive battle Saturday night at Amherst Stadium, but it was the visiting Bearcats who emerged with a 2–1 win in front of 725 fans.
Amherst opened the scoring early, striking just 2:08 into the first period when Cooper Cormier finished off a setup from Mark Corbett and Christian White to give the Ramblers a 1–0 lead. The goal energized the building and gave Amherst the start they were looking for.
Truro found their response late in the second period. With 4:34 remaining, Roy capitalized on the power play, assisted by Connors and Halliday, to tie the game 1–1. The Bearcats carried that momentum into the third.
The eventual game-winner came at 6:08 of the final frame, when Curson redirected a feed from Baillargeon to give Truro its first lead of the night. Despite a late Amherst push, the Bearcats held firm.
Goaltending was a major storyline. Truro’s Luca Connolly turned aside 31 of 32 shots, while Amherst’s Brandon Lavoie was outstanding, making 59 saves on 61 shots in a spectacular performance that kept the Ramblers within striking distance all night.
Special teams proved to be the difference — Truro scored on their lone power-play chance, while Amherst finished 0-for-1.
The Ramblers will look to regroup after a strong effort that came up just short.
