The Amherst Ramblers’ preseason continued with a high-scoring clash Friday night at Simmons Sports Centre, where the Summerside Western Capitals came away with a 7–4 win in front of a spirited crowd of 396.

Summerside wasted no time finding the net, with Coen Miller opening the scoring on a shorthanded break at 12:25 of the first period. Sam Bowness added to the Capitals’ momentum at 14:05, redirecting a Owen MacPherson feed into the net to make it 2–0 as penalties began to pile up—Austin Walker hooked at 11:12 and Sam Bowness was called for hooking at 19:05.

The second period unfolded much the same, as Amherst struggled to gain traction. Carson Griffin struck at 4:42, followed by Brett Arsenault converting a tic-tac combination from Brennan Murphy and Simon Mullen at 11:51. The Ramblers were also shown discipline issues, with Owen Aura whistled for delay of game at 5:32 and Josh Henry getting tagged for roughing at 12:47, the same time Summerside’s Austin Walker was handed a matching minor. Henry earned another minor just before the period ended, along with a delay-of-game call on Ethan Fraser and Austin Walker.

In the third, Amherst attempted to claw back. Sam Bowness netted his second just 1:45 in, but Jacob Pineau responded swiftly for Amherst with a power-play strike at 2:14, assisted by Thomas Gagnon. Coen Miller added another for Summerside at 6:21, and one minute later Ethan Fraser answered for Amherst, assisted by Kayden McGuigan and Adian Silvaggio. At 8:26, Brennan Murphy pushed the Capitals further ahead before Thomas Gagnon delivered a shorthanded tally at 14:40, set up by Evan Nicholson. Zach Wheeler then found the back of the net for Amherst at 17:19, thanks to an assist from Nolan Shaw. Despite the late push, Amherst could not make it a complete comeback.

The penalty box was busy late in the third with Beckett McCabe being called for high-sticking, Nolan Shaw getting a delay-of-game minor, Ethan Fraser tagged with hooking, and multiple misconduct penalties issued to Jack O’Blenis, Zach Wheeler, and Carson Pierce. Shots told another story—Amherst held a 58–47 advantage, including a 32–46 edge in total shots, but couldn’t translate that dominance into the result they needed.

Goaltending saw a split for Amherst: Cole Echlin held the fort early, stopping 28 of 32 shots, while Kyle Pisarik made 11 saves on 14 attempts. Summerside split duties between Hudson Bradley, who stopped all 18 shots he faced, and Jase MacPherson, who collected 10 saves on 14 tries.

Despite the setback, the Ramblers showed resilience with multiple third-period goals.
