Gaudet named as December’s Top Forward Lavoie earns Honourable Mention for Top Goaltender
Top Forward – Anthony Gaudet (Amherst Ramblers) – The 19-year-old from St-Ignace, N.B. has twelve points in six games in December, tied for the most in the league with Truro’s Éli Baillargeon. He had five goals and seven assists for Amherst last month. Gaudet extended his league-best active points streak to fifteen games, which stretches back to November 1st. Incredibly, four of his five goals were shorthanded. One of them was the game-winner against Summerside on New Year’s Eve in a game where he also added three assists. The game prior to that, on December 20th against Valley, Gaudet registered a shorthanded goal and two assists in a 5-1 win.
Entering January, Gaudet leads the MHL scoring race with 49 points in 30 games. He’s second to Summerside’s Simon Mullen in assists with 36. Seventeen of his assists have come on the powerplay, ranking him fourth in that category and tied for third with 21 powerplay points. Gaudet’s four shorthanded goals in December catapulted him to the top of that category and he leads the MHL with six shorthanded points.
Top Goaltender Honourable Mention – Brandon Lavoie (Amherst Ramblers) – The 19-year-old from Lower Sackville, N.S. had a 2-2-0-0 record in December with a 2.01 goals against average and .953 save percentage. His 164 saves were tied with West Kent’s Xavier Farrah for the second-most last month, just three behind Campbellton’s Niko Boudreau but in one fewer game. He had a standout performance December 6th against his former team in a 2-1 loss to Truro where he made 59 saves. After 19 saves in a 4-2 loss to Yarmouth, Lavoie made 39 saves against Valley on the 20th and 47 saves against Summerside on the 31st to earn the win in both games.
