Mariners Take Down Ramblers On Hat and Mitt Toss Night
The Amherst Ramblers saw their comeback effort come up short on Saturday night, falling 4–2 to the Yarmouth Mariners at Amherst Stadium.
Yarmouth set the tone early, striking twice in the opening period to grab control of the game. The Mariners opened the scoring midway through the first and added a second late in the frame, taking a 2–0 lead into the intermission and quieting the home crowd.
Amherst responded with urgency in the second period and turned the momentum in their favour. Darien Reynolds put the Ramblers on the board early in the frame, finishing a play set up by his linemates to cut the deficit in half. Just over three minutes later, Anthony Gaudet struck for the Ramblers, this time shorthanded, as they capitalized on a Yarmouth mistake to tie the game 2–2 and bring the building to life.
The third period proved to be the difference. Yarmouth regained the lead midway through the frame with a goal that slipped past the Ramblers’ netminder, and despite a strong push from Amherst, the Mariners added an insurance marker late to seal the 4–2 victory. Amherst generated chances down the stretch but was unable to find the equalizer.
In goal, the Ramblers received a solid performance, but Yarmouth’s goaltender turned aside 33 shots to backstop the win. The Mariners finished with a slight edge in shots, while both teams were kept off the scoresheet on the power play.
Despite the loss, Amherst showed resilience by battling back from an early two-goal deficit. The Ramblers will look to build on that effort and get back in the win column in their next outing.
