Ramblers Battle Hard but Fall 6–4 on the Road to Pictou County
Jennifer Weeks FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
PICTOU COUNTY, NS — The Amherst Ramblers showed plenty of grit and offensive spark on Saturday night, but a third-period push from the Pictou County Weeks Crushers proved to be the difference as Amherst dropped a 6–4 decision at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
Pictou County opened the scoring midway through the first period with a power-play marker to take a 1–0 lead into the intermission. Amherst responded in the second period, finding their rhythm offensively. Cooper Cormier tied the game at 10:09, finishing off a setup from Mark Corbett and Anthony Gaudet. Just five minutes later, Elliot Wright gave the Ramblers their first lead of the night at 15:08, assisted by Ben Manos and Ty Peddigrew.
The Crushers answered back late in the frame to make it 2–2 heading to the third.
Pictou County regained control with two goals early in the final period to go ahead 4–2, but Amherst continued to push. Ty Peddigrew pulled the Ramblers back within one at 15:21, with assists going to Wright and Zach Wheeler. The Crushers restored their two-goal cushion at 17:36, but Amherst refused to go away. Anthony Gaudet scored with just eight seconds remaining, assisted by Darien Reynolds and Corbett, cutting the deficit to 5–4. Pictou County would add an empty-net goal in the final second to secure the 6–4 result.
Amherst outshot the Crushers 37–33 on the night. Brandon Lavoie made 27 saves in goal for the Ramblers, who generated quality chances throughout the contest but were unable to capitalize on the power play, finishing 0-for-4.
Despite the loss, the Ramblers showed strong resilience and balanced scoring on the road and will look to build on the positives as they continue Maritime Junior Hockey League play.
