Ramblers Clinch Strait Rivalry Series with 5-1 win over Summerside
AMHERST, NS — In front of a raucous crowd of more than 1,000 fans at Amherst Stadium, the Amherst Ramblers delivered a dominant performance Wednesday night, cruising to a 5–1 victory over the Summerside Western Capitals.
Amherst struck early in this Maritime Junior Hockey League matchup, setting the tone from the opening minutes. Just 3:52 into the first period, Cooper Cormier opened the scoring with a goal assisted by Anthony Gaudet, giving the home side an early 1–0 lead.
The second period belonged to the Ramblers as they continued to pile on the offense. Gaudet notched a shorthanded goal at 1:21 to extend the lead, and Cormier struck again at 8:32 with another goal, this time assisted by Gaudet and Christian White. Amherst wasn’t done, as Anthony Morin potted another marker at 11:05 to put the Ramblers up 4–0 through two periods.
Summerside managed to get on the board in the third period with a goal by Ouellette at 8:49, but Amherst answered in emphatic fashion when Cormier completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal at 18:18, assisted by Mark Corbett and Elliot Wright, sealing the 5–1 victory.
Amherst goaltender Brandon Lavoie stood tall between the pipes, turning aside 51 of 52 shots, while the Ramblers’ defense limited the Capitals’ opportunities and tightened up whenever Summerside attempted to mount a comeback.
The victory not only electrified the home crowd but also showcased Amherst’s depth up and down the lineup, with key contributions at both ends of the ice.
Ramblers fans will be buzzing after the team’s performance, and Amherst now sets its sights on continuing the strong play as the MHL season progresses.
