Ramblers doubled up by Truro
AMHERST, NS — The Truro Bearcats came into Amherst Stadium Saturday night and delivered a fast start en route to a 4–2 win over the Amherst Ramblers in a hard-fought Maritime Junior Hockey League matchup.
Truro struck with momentum from the outset, scoring three unanswered goals in the first period to build a commanding lead. Welsh opened the scoring at 3:20, followed by a power-play goal from Aucoin at 9:28 and another tally by Todd at 15:20, giving the Bearcats a 3–0 advantage after the opening frame.
Amherst responded in the second period as Elliot Wright tallied at 12:03, assisted by Ty Peddigrew and Ryan Haynes, cutting the deficit to 3–1. Truro regained a two-goal cushion early in the third when Drew Keiver scored at 3:28.
The Ramblers continued to battle in the third, and Anthony Gaudet added a shorthanded goal at 12:07 with helpers from Owen Aura and Jacob Kaine, pulling Amherst within one but Amherst was unable to close the gap the rest of the way.
Amherst goaltender Brandon Lavoie faced heavy pressure, stopping 36 of 40 shots, while Bearcats netminder Louca Connolly earned the win with 31 saves. The Rams’ special teams were challenged all night, finishing 0-for-5 on the power play, while Truro was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
The loss snaps Amherst’s chance to climb in the standings on home ice, but the Ramblers battled throughout and will look to regroup quickly as they continue their schedule on Friday as Yarmouth comes to town.
