In a tightly-contested Maritime Hockey League battle at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre, the Amherst Ramblers clawed out a gritty 2–1 overtime victory against the Truro Bearcats on Thursday night. It was a game defined by structure, patience, and timely execution — and when it mattered most, Amherst found a way.

From the opening puck drop, both teams settled into a rhythm. The first period saw flashes of offence from both sides, with Truro slightly outshooting Amherst 12–7, but neither squad could solve the goaltending. Amherst’s Lyam LeBlanc and Truro’s Brandon Lavoie each turned aside every shot they faced, setting the tone for a defensive chess match.

The deadlock broke midway through the second period. At 14:49, Amherst’s Thomas Gagnon found the back of the net, converting on a point shot from Christian White and Jeremie Richard. It was a tip shot that beat Lavoie, giving the Ramblers a 1–0 edge heading into the final frame.

Truro, refusing to go quietly in front of the home crowd of 462 fans, pushed back in the third. Their persistence paid off at 11:49, when Callum Aucoin buried the equalizer off a feed from Jake Todd, bringing the Bearcats level at 1–1.

Despite a flurry of chances on both ends late in regulation — Truro pouring on 12 shots to Amherst’s 4 in the third — neither side could break the tie, sending the game to sudden-death overtime.

In the extra frame, it was the Ramblers who struck gold.

Just 3:17 into OT, Jeremie Richard, who had already collected an assist earlier, stepped into a perfect pass off the Bearcats goalies pad from Cooper Cormier, pushing a shot past Lavoie for the game-winner. It was a composed, clinical finish — and it sealed an important road win for Amherst.

Goaltender Lyam LeBlanc was a standout for the Ramblers, stopping 29 of 30 shots and standing tall during a third-period barrage. At the other end, Lavoie was strong as well, with 24 saves on 26 shots in a hard-luck loss.
