Ramblers Grind Out 2–1 Win Over Crushers in a Saturday Night Classic at Amherst Stadium
Amherst, N.S. — November 8, 2025
The Amherst Ramblers proved once again that home ice is their fortress, edging the Pictou County Crushers 2–1 in a tightly contested matchup Saturday night at Amherst Stadium. Before a roaring crowd of 917 fans, the Ramblers weathered early pressure, leaned on stellar goaltending, and found late-game heroics to secure another key victory in the Maritime Hockey League season.
The night began with fireworks as Amherst wasted no time asserting themselves. At 8:01 of the first period, Ty Peddigrew opened the scoring for the Ramblers, finishing off a crisp passing play from Owen Aura and Anthony Gaudet. The home fans had barely settled into their seats when the Crushers struck back less than a minute later — Clint MacLaughlin buried his sixth of the season off feeds from Logan Crosby and , Brennan O’Donnell, tying the game 1–1.
From there, the two clubs settled into a defensive chess match. Both goaltenders turned aside high-quality chances throughout the second period, with neither side able to break the deadlock despite Amherst outshooting Pictou County 17–11 in the frame.
As the tension mounted in the third, it was the Ramblers’ penalty kill that delivered the defining moment. With Amherst shorthanded midway through the period, Thomas Gagnon forced a turnover and raced in shorthanded beating Crushers goaltender Yanni Karkoulas glove side at 16:11. The shorthanded strike — Gagnon’s eighth of the season — sent the crowd into a frenzy and stood as the game-winner.
Between the pipes, Hudson Bradley was rock-solid for Amherst, stopping 38 of 39 shots and earning first-star honors. On the other side, Karkoulas was equally sharp in defeat, turning aside 40 of 42 Ramblers attempts. Despite several power play opportunities on both sides (Amherst 0-for-3, Pictou County 0-for-5), neither team could find success with the man advantage — a testament to disciplined defensive play.
The victory improves Amherst’s record as they continue to climb the MHL standings, while Pictou County will look to regroup after another close contest that could have gone either way.
The Ramblers will return to action next week against Valley as they look to extend their winning ways and continue their strong form on home ice.
