Ramblers Make Three Trades Ahead Of Draft

The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers have made three trades ahead of the 2023 MHL Draft. 

In the first, the Ramblers trade the 2nd overall pick to the Miramichi Timberwolves for two players Anthony Gaudet and Jack O’Blenis. 

Gaudet, a native of St-Ignace, NB played last season in the NBPEIMMHL with the Northern Moose where he had 27 points in 35 games as a 16-year-old. Gaudet was also the 2nd overall pick in last year’s MHL draft by the Timberwolves. 

O’Blenis was an eighth-round pick in the 2021 MHL draft by the Valley Wildcats and was traded last season to the Timberwolves. The 17-year-old Salisbury, NB native split last season between the Saint John Vito’s in the NBPEIMMHL where he had 28 points in 33 games before joining the Timberwolves playing eight games with the Twolves and scoring six points. 

In the second trade, the Ramblers acquire Owen Sparkes in exchange for the 86th overall pick in the 2023 draft and a conditional 6th-round pick in 2024.

The 19-year-old forward from Bay Roberts, NL played last season in the SJJHL for the CBN Stars where he won the SJJHL championship and finished 7th in league scoring with 37 points in 24 games. Sparkes played his U18 with the Tri-Pen Osprey, in three seasons, Sparkes put up 89 in 88 games with Tri-Pen.

In the third trade, the Ramblers received Cooper Cormier from the Campbellton Tiger in completion of the Riley Dubois last season. 

The Dieppe, NB product played the last two seasons with the Moncton Flyers where he put up 65 points in 63 games, Cormier was a part of the Flyers team that won the Telus Cup two years ago. Cormier was also an AP for the team last season playing in two games.  

After these trades, the Ramblers now hold 11 picks in tonight’s draft at 5, 14, 26, 38, 41, 50, 62, 74, 91, 98, and 110.
