The Amherst Ramblers stormed out of the gate with four first-period goals, but couldn’t hold off a surging Truro Bearcats squad, who scored five unanswered to claim a 6–4 comeback victory on Saturday night at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.
It was a dream start for the visiting Ramblers. Just over two minutes into the game, Anthony Morin opened the scoring off a setup from Elliot Wright and Bailey Shortall. Though Truro responded with a power-play goal midway through the period, Amherst didn’t blink. Cooper Cormier restored the lead less than two minutes later with a power-play tally, assisted by Owen Aura and Anthony Gaudet.
The power play kept clicking. Aura added another goal at 15:49, then Cormier struck again on the man advantage at 17:42 for his second of the night. Amherst headed into the first intermission riding high with a 4–1 lead, dominating the opening 20 minutes in both pace and special teams execution.
But the story flipped quickly.
Truro came out with renewed energy in the second period and began chipping away at the deficit. Goals from Bolduc and Keiver pulled the Bearcats within one, while Amherst’s offense stalled. Penalties also started to creep into the Ramblers’ game, disrupting any attempt to regain control.
The third period belonged entirely to the home team.
Baillargeon notched his second of the night on the power play at 11:43 to tie the game 4–4. Just 18 seconds later, defenseman Welsh fired home the go-ahead goal, giving Truro its first lead of the night. Amherst pushed late but couldn’t find the equalizer. With time winding down, Aucoin sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 19:45.
Amherst outshot Truro 30–32 on the night and went 3-for-7 on the power play — a strong showing for the special teams unit despite the loss. Goaltender Lyam Leblanc turned aside 26 shots for the Ramblers.
The result stings after such a promising start. Amherst showed offensive firepower and efficiency early but couldn’t weather the Bearcats’ pushback in the second half of the game.
Now sitting at 0–4 on the season, the Ramblers will look to regroup as they return home for their next matchup.
