Season Comes To An End In Game Seven
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Amherst Ramblers’ season came to a heartbreaking end Saturday night, falling 1-0 to the Summerside Western Capitals in Game 7 of the MHL Cup semi-finals at Credit Union Place.
In a tightly contested, winner-take-all matchup, both teams showcased strong defensive structure and outstanding goaltending from the opening puck drop. The first period saw chances at both ends, but neither side could break through as Ramblers netminder Brandon Lavoie and Summerside’s Kolten Bourret turned aside everything they faced.
The deadlock continued deep into the second period before Summerside found the game’s only goal. At 14:47, Eliott Robert scored his first of the series, slipping one past Lavoie to give the Capitals a 1-0 lead.
Despite the goal against, Lavoie was outstanding between the pipes, finishing the night with 25 saves on 26 shots in a stellar performance that kept the Ramblers within striking distance until the final buzzer.
Facing elimination, Amherst pushed hard in the third period. The Ramblers generated sustained pressure and outshot Summerside 10-5 in the final frame, creating several quality scoring chances. However, Bourret stood tall for the Capitals, shutting the door to preserve the shutout and secure the victory.
The game was a fitting end to a highly competitive series, with six of the seven games decided by two goals or fewer. Summerside completed the comeback after trailing the series 3-2, winning Games 6 and 7 to advance.
While the result marks a difficult conclusion to the season, the Ramblers showed resilience and determination throughout both the series and the 2025-26 campaign. Pushing a top-ranked Summerside team to the brink, Amherst proved itself as one of the league’s most competitive clubs.
The organization would like to thank its players, staff, billets, sponsors, and fans for their unwavering support throughout the season.
