Snowed out by the Blizzard
AMHERST, NS — The Edmundston Blizzard erupted for an offensive outburst Friday night at Amherst Stadium, handing the Amherst Ramblers an 11–3 defeat in a high-scoring Maritime Junior Hockey League clash.
Amherst struck first just 3:24 into the opening period, as Anthony Gaudet scored with a tidy finish and a helper from Cooper Cormier. The Blizzard answered back quickly, with Labranche tying the game at 11:49 before Thomson gave Edmundston the lead at 12:25. By the end of the opening frame, the visitors led 2–1.
The second period saw Edmundston extend its advantage. Labranche struck early at 1:36, followed by another from Thomson at 4:00. Amherst battled back later in the period when Jacob Kaine notched his first goal with the team on hte power-play goal at 8:08, assisted by Mark Corbett, drawing the Ramblers within two. However, Edmundston’s Robichaud restored the Blizzard’s three-goal cushion at 16:03, pushing the score to 5–2 after two periods.
The third period belonged to Edmundston’s offence as they poured it on with six unanswered goals. The Blizzard’s scoring barrage included tallies from Fournier, Thomson (his third of the game), Bouchard-Trottier, Tremblay, and Damphousse, turning the matchup into an 11-3 final.
Amherst’s third goal came early in the third from Jack O’Blenis at just 0:15, giving the home crowd a brief spark before Edmundston’s offense took over.
Edmundston outshot Amherst 40–41 overall. The Blizzard finished 4-for-6 on the power play, while the Ramblers managed 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
In goal, Edmundston’s Massé earned the win with 38 saves, while Amherst goaltenders Lavoie and Bradley combined for 29 saves in the loss.
While the final score did not go Amherst’s way, the Ramblers showed flashes of competitiveness and battled through a relentless attack from one of the league’s top offensive teams. Amherst will look to regroup and turn the page as they continue MHL play.
