Starting The Season Off Right

The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers kicked off the 2024-25 MHL season in a big way at home.

Jaden Reyers would get the goals going for the Ramblers, potting the icebreaker four minutes into the opening frame. Reyers would then double the Ramblers’ lead with under two minutes to go in the first period, sending the team to the intermission up 2-0.

Reyers would pick up right where he left off from the first, completing the hat trick just over a minute into the middle period. West Kent would get their scoring going a minute after Reyers scored his third, that Steamer goal would be the first of three straight as they send the game to the third tied 3-3.

Just like the first two periods, Jaden Reyers would get the first goal, bringing the Ramblers back to the lead with his fourth goal of the night. West Kent would keep pushing on offense and breakthrough once again, tying the game 4-4. With the game still tied and tension rising in the Jungle, the Amherst faithful would get introduced to Carter Ansems, the big man on the blue line, would throw hands and score the takedown in his first fight with the Ramblers. Shortly after the fight, the Steamers would grab their first lead of the game with under three minutes to go. With Lyam LeBlanc on the bench for the extra attacker, and less than 20 seconds on the clock, the Ramblers would line up for an offensive zone faceoff. Mark Corbett would win the draw back to Charles-Antoine Lavallee who would fire a shot towards the net. Mathis Perron would tip the shot onto the West Kent goalie who would rebound the puck to who else but Jaden Reyers. Reyers would score his fifth of the game and send it to overtime.

In three on three overtime, both teams would have excellent scoring chances, including an early breakaway by West Kent that Lyam LeBlanc denied. The two teams would keep going back and forth until a Steamers player would blow a tire, leaving the puck for Christian Reardon who would go down the ice on a 2 on 1 with Mathis Perron. Reardon would feed Perron cross-ice, and the man they call Perry would go post and in to snag the Ramblers their first win of the season!

The Ramblers will look to keep this momentum going into their next game on Saturday, September 21st as the Valley Wildcats come to town.
