Ramblers Win 5–4 in Overtime to Close Out Regular Season
YARMOUTH, N.S. — The Amherst Ramblers wrapped up their Maritime Hockey League regular season in dramatic fashion Sunday night, scoring an overtime winner to defeat the Yarmouth Mariners 5–4 at Mariners Centre. The victory capped the regular season with an exciting win after the Mariners erased an Amherst lead late in the third period.
Amherst jumped ahead late in the opening period with a quick offensive burst. Forward Mark Corbett opened the scoring at 17:30, finishing a play set up by Owen Aura and Anthony Gaudet to give the Ramblers a 1–0 lead. Just 39 seconds later, Dairen Reynolds doubled the advantage, beating the Mariners’ goaltender with assists from Thomas Gagnon to send Amherst into the intermission with a 2–0 edge.
Yarmouth responded early in the second period when Breau cut the deficit to one at 4:15. The Ramblers answered midway through the frame as Cooper Cormier scored his 36th goal of the season at 12:30, finishing a play from Owen Dyke and Gaudet. Amherst added another shortly after when Gagnon found the back of the net at 13:03, pushing the Ramblers’ lead to 4–1 heading into the third period.
The Mariners mounted a strong comeback in the final frame. Pardy scored at 5:34 before MacLeod added another at 10:23 to make it a one-goal game. Yarmouth completed the rally with 5:10 remaining in regulation when Rougeau tied the contest 4–4, forcing overtime and setting up a tense finish.
In overtime, the Ramblers quickly regained control. At 3:55 of the extra frame, Ty Peddigrew buried the game-winning goal off passes from Zach Wheeler and Elliot Wright, sealing the 5–4 victory for Amherst.
Goaltender Hudson Bradley made 37 saves on 41 shots to earn the win for the Ramblers, while Yarmouth netminder Warren stopped 40 of 45 shots in a busy night between the pipes. Amherst outshot the Mariners 45–41 in the game, while both teams were held scoreless on the power play, with Amherst going 0-for-3 and Yarmouth 0-for-2.
The win closes out the Ramblers’ regular season on a high note as the team now turns its attention to the upcoming MHL playoffs. A crowd of 1,164 fans was on hand at Mariners Centre for the regular-season finale.
