Off-Season Update

Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers made two trades in the last 24hrs, completed a player to be named later trade, and picked 5 QMJHL Supplemental players.
In the first deal, Amherst sent a 1st round pick in the 2021 draft to the Campbellton Tigers for a 2nd round pick in 2020 and a 7th round pick in 2021.
Amherst then sent the 2nd round pick acquired from Campbellton to Fredericton along with a 5th round pick in this year’s draft for 20 year old Liam Smith and a 5th in 2021.
General Manager Jeff LeBlanc said he was happy to be adding a goal scoring winger.
“We felt it was important to add another 2nd round pick this year before making the deal with Fredericton. We’ve been talking for a little while now regarding Smith so we had an idea what the price was going to be. ” LeBlanc said
The Cornerbrook, NL native finished last season with 21 goals, 36 points, in 52 games. Liam has already heard great things about Amherst and the fans as he does his summer workouts alongside alumni captain Jordan King. and played his minor hockey with current Ramblers Genge and Cornick.
“He’s a power forward that can score and those are hard to find. We heard a lot of good things about Liam’s character on and off the ice from people I trust a great deal. Combine that with his size, strength, along with his scoring ability you have a pretty good player.” LeBlanc added
Amherst also completed the player to be named later in the Spencer Smith trade with Pictou acquiring 18 year old forward Chase Ellis.
“Chase is another big, strong, power forward that can shoot. Doug coached him in his rookie year and he played really well for him. The fact he’s got two years experience in the league at 18 is a big plus. Excited to see what he can do with some confidence.” LeBlanc said
