Bouncing Back
The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers were looking to get back on track in Miramichi after a tough result Friday night in Campbellton.
The first half of the first period was all goalies, as the game would be scoreless at the 10-minute mark, but that wouldn’t be the case much longer. On the league’s best powerplay, Jonah Jelley would find the loose puck behind the Timberwolves’ net and cut out front to go far side on the Miramichi goal to break open the scoring with 8 minutes to go in the opening period. The power-play goal wouldn’t be the last for the Rams, as shortly after the Jelley goal, Jack Hayne would grab the puck along the boards and pass it in front to Alex Christmas, and he would shoot glove side to double the lead! Amherst wasn’t quite finished in the first as with just over a minute to go, Mark Corbett would coral the Coen Strang point shot and bury it to make the lead 3-0.
Heading to the second, the Timberwolves would quickly get one back, scoring just 47 seconds into the period. Corbett would answer back for Amherst halfway through the frame as Liam Dutcher would pass the puck from behind the net, and Corbett would score his second of the game. Miramichi would score once more before the end of the second to cut our lead to 4-2 after two periods.
In the third, the Timberwolves would be the first team to score, cutting the lead down to one with 15 minutes to play. Just over a minute after Miramichi made it a one-goal game, Charles-Antoine Lavallee would restore the two goal advantage with a powerplay snipe from the top of the faceoff circle. The game would continue to go back and forth as both teams managed great chances. At the 14:27 mark of the third, the Timberwolves would close the gap once again, making it 5-4. The Rams would defend that lead into the game’s final moments as Thomas Auger would score in his second straight game to give us our final score of 6-4.
Rookie goalie Gabe Bergeron would turn aside 24 shots to pick up his first MHL win.
The Ramblers have one more road game left, this Friday night in Yarmouth, before they return home for the Thanksgiving long weekend with two games on the card: Saturday night as the Pictou County Crushers come to town and a game on the holiday Monday as they face the Summerside Capitals.
