Ramblers Clinch Playoff Spot with 5–3 Win Over Truro Bearcats

AMHERST, N.S. — The Amherst Ramblers secured a thrilling 5–3 victory over the Truro Bearcats Monday night at Amherst Stadium, clinching their spot in the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs in front of a spirited home crowd of 945.
Amherst set the tone early, with Tyler Peddigrew opening the scoring just 9:20 into the first period, converting a setup from Zach Wheeler and Elliot Wright to give the Ramblers a 1–0 lead.
In the second, Mark Corbett extended Amherst’s lead at 11:48 with assists from Cooper Cormier and Anthony Gaudet. Truro answered late in the frame with tallies from Jake Todd (15:26) and Callum Aucoin (17:56), knotting the game at 2–2 heading into the third.
The third period was action-packed. Corbett struck again on the power play at 6:21 to restore the Rambler advantage, before Jayden Connors responded for Truro at 9:23 on the power play. Amherst turned up the pressure late as Cooper Cormier collected a goal at 17:36 — assisted by Corbett and Owen Aura — and Anthony Gaudet sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 19:41.
Amherst outshot the Bearcats 27–26 and capitalized on timely special-teams play, going 2-for-3 with the man advantage. Goaltender Brandon Lavoie made 23 saves to earn the win, while Truro’s Louca Connolly stopped 22 of 26.
With the victory, the Ramblers punch their ticket to the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs, riding the momentum of a resilient effort against a fierce division rival. The team looks forward to carrying this performance into the postseason.
