Ramblers Level Series with Gritty 4-2 Victory Over Capitals at Amherst Stadium
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AMHERST, NS – The Amherst Ramblers evened the MHL Cup semi-finals at one game apiece on Monday night, riding a wave of home-ice energy and another stellar goaltending performance to defeat the Summerside Western Capitals 4-2.
In front of a boisterous crowd of 1,345 fans at the Amherst Stadium, the Ramblers used a balanced scoring attack and a relentless defensive effort to overcome a 40-shot barrage from the visitors.
The opening frame was a tightly contested defensive battle, with both teams trading chances. It appeared the period would end scoreless until a late Capitals penalty for harassment of an official gave Amherst a golden opportunity. With just seven seconds remaining on the clock, Jacob Kaine hammered home his first of the playoffs on the power play, assisted by Owen Aura and Cooper Cormier, to give the Ramblers a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Amherst carried that momentum into the second period, striking twice in a span of 37 seconds to break the game open. At 10:16, Cooper Cormier notched his second goal of the series, assisted by Ben Manos and Anthony Gaudet. Before the home crowd could finish celebrating, Christian White extended the lead to 3-0 at 10:53, with helpers from Zach Wheeler and Elliot Wright.
Facing a three-goal deficit, the Capitals pushed back hard in the third. Summerside capitalized on a power play at 7:59 when Max Jardine beat Ramblers netminder Brandon Lavoie. The pressure intensified at 15:50 when Summerside’s Mavrick Hayes cut the lead to 3-2, setting up a frantic final five minutes.
However, Lavoie remained a wall between the pipes, finishing the night with 38 saves on 40 shots. As Summerside pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, Anthony Morin sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 18:48, assisted by Aura.
